Effects of Alcohol Addiction

Many Americans struggle with whether or not to seek help for alcohol addiction. While alcohol is legal to those 21 and older, it is still a dangerous drug. In fact, alcohol addiction is the leading cause of mouth, esophagus, pharynx, liver and breast cancer. Due to the consumption of alcohol and binge drinking being normalized, many people never seek help. Binge drinking is an episode of drinking four or more drinks at once, while alcohol addiction may also be daily drinking, the two are both dangerous and require supervised medical detox.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment Options

Alcohol withdrawal is dangerous and should not be attempted without professional treatment due to the significant risk of dehydration, vomiting, seizures and delusions that can happen when you stop drinking. A qualified and experienced alcohol detox center is vital for safety. An experienced detox staff can help alleviate much of the physical and mental pain of withdrawal by keeping you comfortable, medically stable, and in a structured environment. Treatment does not end after seven to ten days of detox; this is where it begins. Once you have gone through the alcohol detox process, your mind will become clearer, and next phase of treatment can begin. Most treatment lasts anywhere from thirty to ninety days, beginning with intensive daily therapy plans and community integration.

Alcohol Addiction Recovery Process

During your recovery from alcohol addiction, keeping yourself in a safe environment can greatly reduce the risk of relapse, making supervised community housing a vital step towards freedom from alcohol. During your therapy you will examine the underlying causes of your alcohol addiction, resolve past traumas and work toward facing potential triggers. As you progress mentally, emotionally and physically, you will be given more freedoms. Our vocational coaches will help you find employment, go back to school, or find volunteer opportunities within the community.  Recovery from alcohol addiction is possible, many of our employees are in recovery and have been in your shoes. If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol addiction, whether it is daily drinking or binge drinking, the time to seek help is now.
